Project Aim: Ostrea edulis Breeding
Native Aqua operates a genetics-led trait-improvement breeding programme for Ostrea edulis at its biosecure hatchery at the Scottish Oceans Institute, University of St Andrews. The programme targets restoring the species to its historical levels of trait performance and lineage diversity through genetics-informed selective breeding. In collaboration with several leading Scottish universities, the company is developing innovations in native oyster breeding. Hatchery production focuses on supplying restoration programmes across the UK.
